Imagine that a cheating scandal has broken out at your school, and you have been accused of being a cheater. You did NOT actually cheat. What would you do? What if you were taken to the principal's office where you were told that you could get out of trouble by naming the people who were a part of the cheating ring? What if you did not know who cheated? Would you name anyone? Who? Why? Keep in mind that in this scenario, you are a senior, and if you are found guilty of cheating, you will lose your college scholarship...

Also, you should have read to page 51 in The Crucible at this point.

Homework 9/21-22

Originally, you were to have a vocabulary quiz on Thursday/Friday and a test on The Great Gatsby on Monday/Tuesday. Due to a family emergency, I will have to leave town, and I am pushing back both of those assessments. I'll be back on Monday, and that is when you'll take the lesson 4 vocabulary quiz. The test will be pushed back to Thursday.

Things that are due:
Read pages 3-26 of The Crucible
Journals (4 pages) on The Crucible. I will check these on Monday.

In class Thursday/Friday of this week, you will work on Lesson 5 vocabulary and sentences because you will not have time to do them in class next Monday; however, they will not be due until next Thursday (October 1).

In The Great Gatsby, Daisy Buchanan says that she hopes her daughter will be “a beautiful little fool.” Daisy believe that, in some cases at least, ignorance is bliss. The contradictory attitude is the commonly stated belief that “knowledge is power.” Write a carefully reasoned, persuasive essay that demonstrates which of these two ideas is the more valid. Use specific references from your observation, reading or experience to develop your position.

--Complete vocabulary lesson one. Two steps to vocab:
1. Write the word and definition (please number all of the words)
2. Write a sentence (simple, compound, complex) using the word (the sentence should indicate that you understand the word's meaning and can use it correctly).

For the first lesson:
1-5 - simple
6-10 - compound 3 (you will need the sentence patterns sheet in order to know the types of sentences)
11-15 - complex 5
16-20 - complex 6
